Voice Mail (908)735-0950 x 112 I can be reached most easily via email. Spanish phrase of the month: ¡Me encanta la primavera! I love spring! I am teaching grades 1, 2, 3 and some sections of 5th-8th grades. First and second grade receive Spanish once every 6 days. Third grade meets twice every 6 days. Fifth through eighth grade will have Spanish 3 out of 6 days. Please refer to the links to the left for hw, helpful website and important events. If you have an iPhone or iPad, check out these fun apps we use in class to help practice your Spanish! eFlash Spanish Spanish 24/7 Tutor Fun Street In 2nd grade, we danced the Flamenco! Gr 7 is learning the fine art of bargaining in a marketplace as they practice their market vocab and numbers. Gr 7 and 8 continue to write to their epals in Leganés, Spain (just outside of Madrid), telling them about their interests and asking about life in Spain. Here are some terrific ways for students to practice their Spanish outside of class. Students that bring in a note from a parent or guardian describing the activity done to practice their Spanish can receive extra credit. For general vocab and grammar practice: Quia.com/clintonpublic/pages Quia.com The CPS
Spanish Department has made fun games using the themes we are
learning in class. Play Hangman, Rags to Riches (Millionaire), Word
Finds and other great games Freerice.com-- the level of Spanish changes as you play and improve. And you donate rice to hunger organizations at the same time. Two good things at once! http://www.freerice.com/index.php?&t=29622666896&s=Spanish iTunes also has a program call iTunes University with a number of Spanish podcasts of lessons. Our En Espanol text has a CD-ROM program available to check out-- ask me about this. There are also flashcard games and quizzes on the text website http://www.classzone.com/books/en_espanol_1/ For listening practice: Music--- if your child is into music, most types come in Spanish as well. Check out iTunes Latino. Rock, metal, rap, pop, jazz, indie-- it's all there and a great way to train your ear. Not sure where to start? Pandora.com can help! Put in the name of one song or performer in Spanish that you enjoy. Pandora will play a song from that artist and then play similar music it believes you will enjoy as well. Give it a try! http://www.pandora.com/ Movies: take the dvd of your favorite movie and put the language track on Spanish with English subtitles. Edward Cullen sounds wild in Spanish and The Terminator sounds no less menacing! Television---Telemundo and Univision are the two Spanish tv stations in the area. (On Comcast, these are channels 10 and 22.) For speaking practice-- There are a number of language CD's available at the library that you can use to practice. One that I find particularly good in terms of ease of use is the Michel Thomas series. His technique is completely speech based and very effective. The library also has an online language program called PowerSpeak. http://www.hclibrary.us/ref/eresources/erpage_language.htm Another series I have available is like an online dictionary of phrases that can be loaded onto an iPod. It can be very useful if you are going on vacation. Please let me know if you would be interested in hearing more about any of these programs. For reading practice: Look on the internet for national and international newspapers in Spanish. The Miami Herald http://www.elnuevoherald.com/and El Pais (Spain) http://www.elpais.com/global/ are good ones to try. I have some level 1-appropriate books available to borrow. See me if you're interested. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. You can also sign up to receive an email alert each time this page is updated. As always, thank you for your invaluable support. Together, we can help your child find their greatest success as they learn a second language.
