After China, India is the second most populous country and world’s largest democracy. It has an extremely fast-growing economy, with the workforce well recognized for its talents all over the world. Indian specialists in information technology are sought after by international companies. India has been producing countless movies in Bollywood, and recently, one of them, "Slamdog Millionaire",  has been recognized with the Oscars.
While the rapidly growing and well educated middle class has benefited tremendously from the economic growth of the country, the rural population has remained largely impoverished and uneducated. The ancient order of castes remains the social norm there, assigning each individual a permanent place within a society. Yet the government has been determined to introduce social reforms, reduce illiteracy, and help the poorest.
