Clinton Public School Clubs and Activities

Clinton Public School offers a selection of clubs and activities for various ages.  Below you will find a list of clubs with current advisors.

Aim High

Advisor: Dr. Kastner & Mrs. Schorr

Aim High is an afterschool academic program designed to provide extra help to students who nee extra help in literacy and math. The students are tutored in small groups and provided strategies to build their academic skills during the first half hour of the session. The second half of the hour is reserved to begin homework and receive extra help and clarification with homework when needed. Aim High participants are based on teacher recommendation.

Artline is a program for a select group of 6th grade students to work in collaboration with other schools in the creation and exhibition of original artwork.

 

Golf Club

Advisor: Mrs. Viotto

    The CPS Golf Club is open each spring to 40 students in grades 3-8.  Spots are filled on a first come, first served basis following the distribution of club information. Information/forms will be available for downloading in early March 2010.
At that time, look for more specific information under Activities/Clubs and/or Mrs. Bulger’s web page. All golfers must have have an up-to-date sports physical on file with Mrs. Storey or they will not be allowed to participate. Sports physical forms may be downloaded under the Services/Health Services link.
    The club program consists of four clinic sessions (over the course of four weeks) directed by teaching professionals at Heron Glen Golf Course. Students may choose to join the Monday or Wednesday sessions (20 students per session).
Each session is split into two groups of ten golfers each-- the Birdies series is designed for grades 3-5 and the Eagles series for grades 6-8. Instruction typically begins near the end of April. A mini golf trip to Pine Creek Miniature Golf Course is an annual event for all members. In addition, Middle School students have the opportunity to experience course play at High Bridge Hills Golf Course. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Bulger, e-mail: mbulger@cpsnj.org

PEER TO PEER

Advisors: Mrs. Penn & Mr. Bidwell

Peer To Peer is a dedicated group of 7th and 8th Grade Student Leaders that develop their personal leadership skills while learning about drug and alcohol prevention.  They then prepare interactive outreaches to younger grades on drug and alcohol prevention, as well as bullying. 
The group begins each year with a mini retreat and then meets every Thursday morning from 7:15 – 8:30AM throughout the school year.
Applications for new Peer Leaders become available in late May each year.  In addition to the application, students participate in a group interview.  How many new Peer Leaders are selected depends upon the number of returning Peer Leaders and the number of new applicants.

REBEL 2

Advisor: Mrs. McVerry
 
REBEL 2 is a group of dedicated 6th, 7th and 8th graders that develop their personal leadership skills while learning about tobacco prevention.  They then prepare interactive and informative outreaches to younger grades on making healthy lifestyle choices, especially when it involves tobacco products.  The presentations include information about tobacco and the consequences of using tobacco products. 
The group meets every Wednesday morning from 7:30-8:15 AM throughout the school year.
Applications for new REBEL 2 Leaders become available in late May each year.  In addition to the application, students participate in a group interview.  How many new REBEL 2 Leaders are selected depends upon the number of returning REBEL 2 Leaders and the number of new applicants.

Student Council - Grades 5-6#

Advisor: Mrs. Grimm

The positions are president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. The student council meets during lunch, occasionally before school and after school.  The council's mission is to reach out and make a positive difference in the community and school.  This could be through a service learning project or planning a fun school wide activity.
Each candidate is permitted to post 4 posters and is required to give a short speech to his or her peers.

Student Council - Grades 7-8

Getting involved with Student Council allows students to have a say in what activities and events are planned during the school year. Members of the council organize student fundraisers, perform community service, and plan various student activities through the course of the year. Through these activities and more, members of the council gain valuable experience in student government and become more responsible, active members of the CPS community.

Yearbook

Students who become a member of the Yearbook Club are given an opportunity to expand upon their artistic talents and organization skills. These students are responsible for taking photographs of their peers, teachers, and school community, as well as organizing these pictures in creative layouts. By participating in Yearbook Club, students are able to create a lasting record of their memories here at Clinton Public School.
